People love a bit of mystery. Mystery is the basis of storytelling and the hook that gets you to click a link and keep reading. But like stories, most mysteries are fake.
Everyone has their own theory for these 12 famous "unsolved" mysteries, not that it matters. They've already been figured out.
1
The Wow! Signal
In 1977, Ohio State University's Big Ear telescope detected a strong, narrow-band radio signal. Initially thought to be evidence of extraterrestrial activity, most evidence suggests the signal was caused by a hydrogen cloud interacting with a comet.
2
The Alcatraz Escapees
In 1962, Frank Morris and Clarence and John Anglin escaped the “innescapable” Alcatraz on a makeshift raft. They were never heard from again, and although conspiracy theorists love to speculate on their fates, it’s pretty obvious that their raft sunk in the choppy bay.
3
The Dyatlov Pass Incident
In 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers died while traversing the eastern slopes of Kholat Syakhl. In the incident, the hikers appeared to cut out of their tents in a rush, inadequately dressed for the cold before dying in odd ways. While the incident appears exceptionally strange, all evidence points to a small avalanche followed by deaths from hypothermia.
4
Who Wrote Shakespeare's Plays?
While some people love to peddle the narrative that Shakespeare didn’t pen all his plays, virtually every scholar on the subject agrees there is little to no doubt that the Bard did it all himself.
5
Shelly Miscavige
In 1982, Shelly married the Scientology leader David Miscavige. However, she hasn’t been seen in public since 2007. While there is no formal missing person investigation, we can reasonably assume that she isn’t just “living a private life.”
6
Roswell UFO Crash
As one of the first moments of UFO hysteria in the United States, the media sensationalized the crash of a Project Mogul military balloon.
7
Who Killed Jimmy Hoffa?
While Hoffa’s body likely won’t ever be found, nor the exact identity of his killer, it’s pretty clear who played a part. Mobster Anthony Provenzano, (known for killing political opponents), told Hoffa he’d “pull out his guts” if Hoffa attempted to regain control of Teamsters. Hoffa then disappeared after going to a meeting with Provenzano and other mobsters.
8
The Bermuda Triangle
The “mystery” of the Bermuda triangle is hardly a mystery. With unpredictable weather and difficult terrain, it’s no wonder ships tend to sink there.
9
Amelia Earhart
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Earhart crashed before completing her journey. Whether that means the Pacific Ocean or the uninhabited Nikumaroro Island is up for debate, but does it really matter? Strong evidence points to the latter anyhow.
10
Scotland’s Dog Jump Bridge
Tragically, dogs regularly leap from the side of this bridge in Scotland to their deaths. Originally a mystery, olfactory evidence indicates that the surrounding area possesses mink nests and urine; a scent which dogs follow strongly.
11
Bigfoot
Whether it’s Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or any other cryptid, there are no mysteries here. They’re all fake.
12
The “Lost” City of Atlantis
There is no “lost” city, as the idea of Atlantis came from a philosophical allegory by Plato.
