Being a server is an exceptionally hard job. Working tirelessly on your feet all day while juggling dozens of tasks simultaneously is hard enough without annoying customers making things worse.
But be warned!
If you treat your servers poorly enough, they might plot revenge. Here are 16 service industry vets sharing their revenge schemes and what got them to that point.
1
"Let Me Fix That"
“If they say their order is messed up I always demand the food back before I get it remade.”
2
Caramel
“A drink got sent back to me because there wasn’t enough caramel so I remade it in front of her. I literally took the lid off of the dark caramel bottle and dumped a good quarter of it on top of the drink. I gave it to her. She took a sip and said, ‘Now THIS is what I meant by extra caramel!’”
3
Counting Ones
“My bank lady came in tonight. I don't think she knew who I was. She tipped $3 on a decently large bill and complained about everything. Guess who's going to the bank tomorrow to have HER count my big ol’ stack of ones?”
4
Two-Faced
"My absolute favorite is being a completely different server to the table next to them. I’ll be short, efficient, and 100% neutral with the table that’s being bad, then I’ll literally turn around and be then nicest person in the world so they can totally see and hear the difference."
5
Jalapeños
“Once we had a terrible regular who ordered a burger with jalapeños and my sous added two seeds right in the middle and said ‘that'll show him!’ That's about as evil as it gets.”
6
Negative Tip
“My coworker’s shift ended so I took over one of their tables. Customer did not like this and left a negative tip.”
7
Caked
Server “drops” girl’s birthday cake forcefully into her face.
8
"I'm So Nice"
“I often tell tables, ‘I’m not supposed to do this, but you’re nice so I don't care.’ When tables are bad, I’ll loudly make this announcement to the table next to them.”
9
Vanilla
“Someone asked for a vanilla bean frapp with extra caramel, (it doesn’t normally come with any). I absolutely messed them up with caramel. 12 pumps of caramel syrup in the already sweet drink.”
10
Local Bar Owner
Getting back at bad customers.
11
No Free Stuff
“I charge bad customers for all of the extra stuff they demanded. Extra chips? Charged. Want another coke? Another charge. It's not a policy that we give free refills, we just do it to be kind.”
12
No Bread For You
“At my restaurant some meals come with a choice of bread. Normally I don’t charge for extra bread, even though I’m supposed to. But if you’re mean, you’re getting charged.”
13
Standards

14
"Thank You So Much"
“As I drop off the bill I say, ‘Thank you so much, it was an honor and a pleasure serving you,’ with a sweet smile. The sarcasm is implied but not spoken.
15

16
Teens
“I hate serving teenagers.”
