Photography has come a long way since its invention in 1822, with no development more significant than the addition of color. But while color photography was invented in 1861, it didn't become commonplace until the 1970s, thanks to the time and costs it took to take them. Therefore, so many awesome historical photographs are relegated to showing the colorful world they came from through a back-and-white filter. That is, until now.

Thanks to A.I., digital tools, and other coloring techniques, we can see historical photos like they've never been seen before, on a scale we've never been able to produce them. We can see moments like Yankees legend Roger Maris slugging his then record-breaking 61st home run of the 1961 season, breaking Babe Ruth's long-standing mark. Green grass, brown dirt, and blue sky are absolutely pivotal to the baseball aesthetic, and it's a privilege to be able to see this moment in a way only those who were there at the ballpark have been able to see it for the past 60 years.

See that photo, along with 19 other striking historical pics of people, places, and things, brought to life with color.
