Marvel Studios' latest blockbuster The Marvels opened in theaters this past weekend, earning $110.3 million worldwide. While that's a massive number for most movies, it's the lowest mark ever for an MCU film, and a relative flop when you consider the movie's $274.8 million budget.

The MCU has been on a downward trend for some time now, with Disney seemingly prioritizing quantity over quality ever since Avengers: Endgame. The result is a surplus of mediocre content, leaving all but the most devoted fans wondering if it's even worth drudging through low-rated shows, for the luxury of understanding the context behind some future crossover film. 

Fans were less than interested in seeing a movie starring multiple characters featured in lower-budget Disney+ series, teaming up with one of the lesser-known heroes from the previous Avengers iterations. That, combined with a lack of proper marketing due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, meant a perfect storm for low box office performance.
