America’s boardwalks were an idyllic haven for vacationers.
The boardwalks of America’s East Coast were established in the mid-19th century and quickly became a popular destination for city-dwellers to get away. By the 1950s, they were booming districts with hotels, restaurants, theaters, and amusement parks. Eventually, they experienced a decline due to the influx of casinos and the rising popularity of other vacation spots like Disney World. But looking back, the seaside wooden walkways feel like the ideal place to spend a summer.
