One of the pitfalls of modern politics happens when candidates become more concerned with "winning," than they do with helping the American people. Unfortunately, in order to do the latter, they have to do the former. The result is debates and subsequent online discussions that have much more to do with landing a 10-second soundbite than they do with adequately explaining a policy or answering a question. 

Everybody is looking for the hottest "burn" or the perfect "own," and although those are probably counterproductive to progress in the long run, few things are more satisfying than watching somebody affiliated with your party lay the hammer down exactly the way you want them to. Even though virtually everybody wants the same thing, we're all stuck fighting a two-party war while the people in charge run away with all the money.
