28 Tweets and Reactions to the World Series Fan Interference

Last night, the New York Yankees looked like they had life for the first time this World Series, thumping the Dodgers in a resounding 11-4 Game 4 victory. But on a night when the stories should have been about the Yankees' exploding bats, instead, everyone is talking about the behavior of two fans.

In the bottom of the first inning with the game barely underway, Yankee leadoff hitter Glayber Torres skied a foul ball down the right field line. Dodgers' right fielder Mookie Betts leaped towards the stands and made the catch, only for two fans to immediately pry the ball out of his glove.

The incident instantly brought back memories of the infamous Steve Bartman Cubs incident, except this time, fans overstepped their bounds trying to help their team, instead of hurting it. (And in the age of instant replay, the out was still recorded.)

Viewers around the country were outraged, calling for the MLB to permanently ban the fans, with some urging assault charges. But Yankee fans were more supportive; this is bedlam in the Bronx.

Later the fan was identified as Austin Capobianco, and while he understood the consequences of his actions, he was less than sorry. "I patrol that wall and they know that. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up.”

Capobianco claimed he was informed he would be allowed back for Game 5. Time will tell if he ever sees another Yankee game again.
