Aside from the Vietnam War, 1971 was a pretty good year. Apollo's 14 and 15 went much better than their predecessor, 18 became the new voting age, and Evel Knievel jumped 19 cars on a motorbike in Ontario.
People just wanted to have a good time, and many of them certainly did.
