The world is a big, wide, fascinating place! There is just so much cool stuff to see and learn about out there and there's literally NO way you could ever squeeze in all of it in a single lifetime. That, to me, is the great tragedy of mortality - we are each doomed to leave this Earth without understanding it completely.
While that universal truth will never become a lie, collections like these certainly do help us learn as much as we can in a short amount of time.
