Mech suits are probably the coolest idea Sci-fi has churned out. 

Robots are interesting, and armor is cool, but blending them together and putting a guy inside is a top-tier idea. Mostly because it’s just awesome to look at. On a deeper level, they probably resonate because most Sci-fi fans are nerds who can’t fight, and this is tech that makes it possible for even the most spindly, uncoordinated indoor kids to decimate monsters and aliens with a punch.

It’s sad that they mostly remain in movies, and the brightest scientists of today are wasting their time trying to cure diseases instead of making too world-ending armor suits.
