Though Saturday Night Live's sixth season may have brought us Eddie Murphy's TV debut and an iconic performance from Prince, the now-beloved sketch comedy series started off the '80s on the wrong foot. With a lower budget, the exit of Lorne Michaels (who ultimately returned a few years later) as well as an entirely new cast and a largely revamped writer's room, SNL's 1980-1981 season was far from a hit. It was lambasted by critics as a "snide and sordid embarrassment" and a "shell" of its former glory.
But even if memorable for all the wrong reasons, one thing is certain — the sketches from sketches Saturday Night Live '80 were — and still are — a trip to look at.
