35 Festivals of Fire from Around the World
Ever since cavemen rubbed two sticks together to spark the first manmade flames, humans have been drawn to fire. Even if you’re not an arsonist, you have to admit that giant bonfires look pretty awesome.
Various cultures around the world build and burn huge wooden effigies for different reasons. Effigies are burned everywhere from Burning Man, a way for CEOs to let loose and finally experience what it’s like to hold a dreamcatcher, to Dussehra, a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.
Sometimes people burn a giant statue of someone to show their hatred for that person. And sometimes people burn huge sculptures because it looks really awesome to see those things on fire. Check out these pictures of various effigy burnings around the world.
