Back in the day, women had to be dressed to the nines to do anything. In the same way men were expected to wear full three-piece suits even in the sweltering heat, women had to wear sequin dresses and hats to simply exist in public. There was absolutely no exception to this, even when a lady committed a crime and had to take a mugshot.

The result is some pretty glammed-out mugshots of some beautiful criminals. A lot of these crimes aren’t crimes, because rampant misogyny was just part of the furniture back then. Of course… it still totally is. But back then they took a picture of it!
