All the way back in 1911, Captain Robert Falcon Scott tried to be the first person to reach the South Pole. He failed, losing to the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen by 34 days, but his team snapped an awesome photo from inside an ice cave along the way. Unfortunately, Scott, along with the rest of his team perished trying to return to their ship.
