Chokers. Bucket hats. Lava lamps.
Though a whole lot of '90s trends managed to flow back into fashion with yet another turn of the trend cycle, a few elements of the iconic decade have yet to get another go. Enter Starter jackets, Airwalk sneakers, inflatable furniture, and all of the other childhood staples that have remained squarely in our younger years.
From Yo-Yos to body glitter, here are 11 fashion and other trends that somehow haven't come back yet.
1
Body Glitter
“Body glitter! Give me some Bath and Body Works ‘Art Stuff’ roll on body glitter or lotion in electric apple!! I’ll even settle for a shimmer body lotion.”
2
Yo-Yos
“I remember when Yo-Yos were big in the '60s, but they got crazy fancy and lit in the '90s. Similar to how roller skates and skateboards were popular when we were kids, but modern skateboarding and inline skating took it to incredible new levels.”
3
Starter Jackets
“Getting a starter jacket was like hitting the lottery... especially when you were poor like me lol.”
4
Chain Wallets
“Chain wallets were all the rage even up through '99, though none of us had any money in our wallets to protect against theft or loss. That's not what the chains were for, of course.”
5
Dark-Toned Colors
“Having come of age during the '90s/2000s era, I really miss certain colors that were popular at different times, that I find on a hit-or-miss basis these days--maybe they're less ubiquitous now. For example, chocolate brown, plum/eggplant purple (purple in general), and other jewel tones.”
6
Airwalk Sneakers
“I always wanted a pair of Airwalks when I was a kid because my friend had some, but my mom would never buy them because they were too expensive”
7
See-Through Electronics
“There's something cool about seeing the electronics. That's why you got entire PC cases revolving around it.”
8
Beanie Babies
“My friend's parents were all into them. They were beyond obsessed with them, as a teen I didn't understand why.”
9
Faux Grapes
“My mother insisted on having these in a nice bowl!”
10
Zubaz Pants
“Zubaz were insanely popular, especially amongst the jocks, in the early nineties.”
11
Inflatable furniture
“I had the armchair, but not the couch. I just remember being stuck if I didn't have enough momentum or commitment haha.”
