Though the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame may have just inducted its latest class of artists, a talented bunch including Mary J. Blige, Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton and Kool & the Gang, some rock fans still aren't satisfied, pushing for their favorites to get their day in the Cleveland, Ohio Sun.
From The Monkees to Alice in Chains, here are 10 performers who are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but should be, as told by the folks of Reddit.
1
The Pixies
“The Pixies. Dave Grohl said that he believed 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was a blatant ripoff of the Pixies’ style.”
2
The Violent Femmes
“Violent Femmes. Their debut is 40 years old this year and they still rock.”
3
"Weird Al" Yankovic
“Nobody does parody like Al. He put parody as a genre on the map, has been doing it consistently well for decades, and has won multiple Grammys for his work. Weird Al is more than deserving for the recognition of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
4
The Monkees
“The Monkees! The guys are legends, they should definitely be in the Hall of Fame.”
5
Phish
“They've been touring for 4 decades, selling out arenas for 3 decades, and have had a huge influence on an entire genre of music. They don't have the same stats for record sales as many other inductees, but I find it hard to believe that they won't be recognized at some point.”
6
Alice In Chains
“There are two hills I have been willing to die on as far as admission to the Hall of Fame goes: Rush and Alice In Chains. They made it right with Rush eventually, but AiC is a huge hole in the Hall.”
7
Damon Albarn
“Damon Albarn. He is arguably the most significant and influential music artist to have come out of Britain in the last 30+ years. Dude is in both Blur and Gorillaz, is the icon of '90s Britpop era, and is still going strong!”
8
Iron Maiden
“They've survived and thrived after every major change in metal for 5 decades, look at the amount of their contemporaries who just disappeared after 1991, despite huge success before that. If you'd told 11-year-old me in 1982 that they'd still be around when I was in my 50s, my mind would have exploded. Its probably a crime that they've not been inducted already.”
9
Styx
“Styx has never even been nominated.....whyyyy? They've only sold somewhere around 30 million records, headlined arena tours, had multiple big hits. Don't get it.”
10
Soundgarden
“Soundgarden. Chris Cornell is arguably the greatest rock vocalist of all time.”
