The 1970s were a weird time. 

It came right in between the counterculture of the 1960s, and the conservative wave of the 1980s, so the decade's cultural identity is a strange mix of shaggy hippy aesthetics awkwardly pasted into the mainstream.

Long hair was the standard, no matter how much hair you could grow, fashion was constantly trying to blaze new trails that seemed to go nowhere, and products like food and toys were taking a turn for the bold.
