1. Fathers' Day (1997)
Robin Williams starring alongside Billy Crystal has the ingredients for an all time classic comedy. Instead, poor writing and plot choices make it feel shallow. It only made back $28 million of its $85 million budget. -
2. Cutthroat Island (1995)
The biggest loss on this list, the Matthew Modine and Geena Davis led film only made $10 million at the box office, despite a budget of almost $90 million. With poor performances from the lesser-known leads, the movie had the ambitions of a blockbuster hit, with none of the ingredients. -
3. The 13th Warrior (1999)
Starring Antonio Banderas, this wannabe epoch is instead a mishmash of action and overly dramatic dialogue. Sporting a budget over $150 million, the movie only brought in just over $60 million. -
4. The Postman (1997)
Kevin Kostner has a way of only making classics, or busts. In this case, the post-apocalyptic movie falls short on its lofty aspirations, losing over $60 million dollars in the process. -
5. Instinct (1999)
Starring Anthony Hopkins, you’d expect this jungle thriller to perform. Instead, a strange plot meant it raked in almost $30 million less than its $60 million budget. -
6. Jack Frost (1998)
Sporting an incredibly convoluted premise for Jack Frost, Michael Keaton can’t rescue a movie about a living snowman with a harmonica. The movie failed to break even, surprise surprise. -
7. Dudley Do-Right (1999)
Starring Brendan Fraser and Sarah Jessica Parker, this comedy makes little effort to elevate its humor above a 3rd grade level. An unfortunate trait for a film not completely marketed as a kid’s movie. It made less than $10 million, on a budget of $70 million. -
8. Spaced Invaders (1990)
Perhaps one of the first movies allusion to a video game, “Spaced Invaders” did “Space Invaders” anything but justice. Directed by Patrick Read Johnson, the action comedy fell flat. But, with only a $3 Million budget, there are bigger flops on this list. -
9. The Astronaut's Wife (1999)
A sci-fi drama about an astronaut who comes back different, the movie starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron could have been an intense psychological thriller. Instead it was slow moving and predictable, losing about $55 million. -
10. Chill Factor (1999)
Starring Skeet Ulrich and Cuba Gooding Jr., Chill Factor was supposed to be a fun and light action comedy. But when your action comedy has bad action and shallow comedy, that isn’t a recipe for success.
