A car's interior should be a pleasant space, combining comforting aesthetics with thoughtful ergonomics and easy functionality.
So why are there so many ugly interiors, that also make things impossible to use?
From the cheapest of the cheap, to the most expensive disasters, here are our picks for the 10 worst automotive interiors in automobile history.
1
The Fiat Multipla might be one of the strangest looking cars ever made from the outside, (look it up), and carries that design philosophy to the inside. This cluttered mess exists so that three seats can fit in the front.
2
Ford had a strange obsession with odd angles and circles in the early 2000s, and their 2002 Focus is a perfect example. Just be normal, please?
3
Despite its cult following, the Aztek is not a good car. That carries over to the interior, which looks like it was made for a man sporting a fake Rolex and a toupee, while driving by the local high school around three pm. What is that camo fabric?
4
It might be mean to call an interior that isn’t trying to do a single thing one of the “worst,” but the velvet seats, cheap plastic, and bland wheel are already giving me motion sickness.
5
This interior might not be that ugly, but from a functional standpoint it didn’t work. As the first car to use a digital dash in the 1970s, the tech still had a ways to go.
6
That gear lever only reminds me of one other kind of protrusion, and I’d rather not grab onto it.
7
The Toyota Yaris was built to be four wheels that move, and that’s it. Still, they couldn’t have put in just a little more effort?
8
“Let’s make it red.” “Ok, how red?” “Yes.”
9
Between the gear shift on the dash, and nothing in between the front seats, what was the point of this useless, and dull design?
10
This might be controversial, but most complaints people have about modern interiors were facilitated here. An unsettlingly clean look, with just an iPad, and no buttons? It’s not my cup of tea.
11
The honorable mention goes to this custom built Porsche 911 Turbo S. Fortunately it’s a one-off.
