Back in the 1960s, it seemed like everything was pointing towards a sci-fi future being right around the corner. Technology was progressing rapidly, and a lot of people thought robots and flying cars were about to be a daily part of their lives. They were pretty much completely wrong because the technology wasn’t even close back then. But it didn’t stop people from trying.

Dennis Weston was a British inventor in the sixties, and he decided to embark on the world’s first robotic maid. He sort of succeeded, when he created Tinker, a robot who could clean cars, cook, type, and pick up the mail. This is all very impressive until you learn Tinker had to be fully controlled by Dennis from a few feet away with a remote control. So the guy basically made a remote-controlled car with arms and gave it a lady's name. 

Despite it not being the real deal, there are a lot of cool pics and videos taken of Tinker doing her thing, and it feels like looking at behind-the-scenes footage of a vintage Twilight Zone episode.
