U.K. IT Guy Caught Fudging Coworkers' Data For Over a Decade
IT people have a lot of power, and it's best to stay on their good side. But what about when they decide to go rogue on their own? That's what one British IT man did, wreaking havoc across a company for more than 10 years, and specifically targeting one man.
"I work in a medium-sized firm. Between 2014 and January 2024 I found myself constantly making mistakes while working," the victim wrote in the r/LegalAdviceUK subreddit. "I felt like I was going crazy." Incorrect calculations, missing files, and bad typos became a common occurrence for him. The word "count" was even changed to a much more sinister c-word multiple times. As a punishment, the employee was denied promotions, banned from working from home, put on a performance improvement plan, and even screened for early-onset Alzheimer's.
But when the old IT man was fired for his own harassment scandal, his replacement quickly uncovered the truth: he had been altering files for years. "This man has been sabotaging my work life for a decade," the victim wrote.
Now, the victim is seeking legal advice for the significant time, money, reputation, and career damage the old IT man caused him. At the very least, it must be nice to know he's not crazy.
